Individual Guidance

Individual guidance is an integral element of the spiritual path, either in an ongoing way or at key junctures in practice.

It is best to work with a teacher whom you can see in person for teachings and/or guidance. This may mean that you travel to attend teachings. Making this effort has been an effective way to receive spiritual guidance for millennia.

In the current world, technology allows connection to a teacher virtually, which can also be effective when done sincerely.

Working with Kim:

Practice discussion is a meeting within a Dharma context. Each case is treated uniquely, but in general:

  • If you have a straightforward Dharma question, you may wish to send a message via the Contact link below. Perhaps I can answer in a simple way.

  • Sometimes a meeting is best. Before we have a practice discussion, please tell me a bit about your daily practice, as well as any other teachers by whom you feel guided or inspired.

  • I have a limited number of spots for people to have ongoing practice discussions. This is a different level of connection. I do these with people who I know because they attend my teachings, and who have already established a regular practice. My schedule does not allow a regular meeting time, and a typical interval is 1-2 months (and for some people, longer feels fine).

  • Mutuality: Connecting with a teacher is a relational form. Meetings are “on a dāna basis” in the sense that there is no fee, but having a clear relationship is appropriate, such as through a financial offering. No one is turned away in a case of genuine hardship.
