Uncontrived’s
Inaugural Retreat
June 20-25, 2027
Goldendale, WA
Our vision is to hold an annual Uncontrived Community Retreat
Many of our programs are offered online. A residential retreat allows us to connect in-person, deepening our practice, understanding, and community.
It is happening in 2027! We will practice together at the Ser Cho Osel Ling retreat center in Goldendale WA from June 20-25. It is a silent retreat with classical Insight instructions. Uncontrived community participants are especially welcome, and the retreat is also open to other Insight practitioners.
Meditation retreats offer a powerful opportunity. It is rare and precious to have the chance to devote many days exclusively to Dharma practice with the direct guidance of a teacher.
The opportunity right now:
We are raising funds to make this retreat more accessible by offering it without any registration fee.
In the ancient tradition of dāna, Buddhist teachings are given within a "field of generosity" -- freely offered to participants, and sustained by people's voluntary support. Kim already teaches in this spirit, and we wish to extend it to include the material costs of the venue and food. Sharing the Dharma this way allows the liberative path to unfold most beneficially.
Uncontrived has already received seed funding from the Insight Meditation Center. But we need your help to realize our vision fully. Please consider supporting our Inaugural Community Retreat.

Our dana-based 5-night retreat will be held at Ser Chö Ösel Ling (SCOL) Retreat Center (SCOL Center) in the beautiful mountains of southern Washington. The center is a 2 ¼ -hour drive from Portland OR. Yogis will have single rooms and 3 vegetarian meals per day.
The retreat will include classical Insight meditation instructions and teachings within a silent format, a chance to discuss your practice with the teacher, and time for community connection before and after the silence.
This style of practice and teaching supports the development of mindfulness, wisdom, and compassion, and brings benefits to one’s daily life.

Uncontrived has rented SCOL Center in Goldendale WA for 5 nights. Our costs include the facility rental and food. Funds will enable us to offer the retreat with no registration fee. If we receive more funding than needed, we will consider offering travel scholarships for yogis of limited means.
-
The retreat cost depends on how many yogis come to the retreat. We estimate 10-20 yogis will register for our first retreat. This will put our costs at $10,000 and $13,000
